Financial Times Interviews Adurasys MD Melanie Smart
![]() |
Adurasys MD Melanie Smart was interviewed for comment, by Financial Times correspondent Jonathon Guthrie following an impassioned speech by Jaguar/Land Rover manufacturing director Paul Cope. Her opinion was sought as to whether JLR should receive the financial support that owners Tata were seeking from the government. Commenting Melanie said, "Following the decline of our Automotive industry, people are forever saying that UK Manufacturing is dead, but the real strength of manufacturing lies with it's supply chain. Small innovative, highly efficient companies, bursting with capability -why do you think most of the Formula One teams choose the UK as their base." She continued " For me, the answer was a resounding YES. This funding would act as a conduit to inject much needed life into our flagging economy and is a drop in the ocean, compared to the financial support poured on the Financial sector, who seem to be rewarded for failure." US Software Company, Cognition, select Adurasys as base for UK Operations
Adurasys have been in discussion and negotiation with Cognition, since meeting them at the INCOSE conference in Holland, June 08. Now the deal is done and Adurasys have signed an exclusive contract to supply Cognition's software. The software known as 'The Cockpit' has a strong Six Sigma pedigree and Cognition have an enviable reputation, perhaps only surpassed by their high profile client list which includes the likes of Whirlpool, Raytheon, Pratt & Whitney and even Motorola (the home of Six Sigma itself) Most software companies create a pretty front end, then create the content once they've made the sale. Cognition have done it the other way around. Commenting, Melanie Smart said "This is the best kept secret of the business world. V4 was as pretty as the competition over 18 months ago but V5 has taken usability and capability to a new level." she continued, "If the Cockpit was seaside rock, you'd find capability written right through it." In addition to the traditional Six Sigma applications for the Cockpit, Adurasys will draw on it's considerable experience within all aspects of Business Process Improvement and will spearhead the World wide drive to incorporate these leading edge features at serious organisations across the UK and Europe. To find out more you can choose to attend one of our ten minute Webinars, which we will be holding on a regular basis and/or you can book a tailored demonstration, to see exactly how it could work in your organisation. For more details of the webinars complete your details here or contact us if you'd like someone (non-sales) to contact you with more information. |

And utilising KPI s (Key Performance Indicators) to mathematically determine the performance of the Process, facilitating 'live' dynamic changes in quality, cost and delivery performance to be viewed at any level of the process map. Melanie Smart will be joining the judging team for the Formula Student event at Silverstone in July Formula Student is organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (iMechE) to help build future engineering talent, not just in design and manufacture, but in many of the business management, marketing and people skills vital in modern commerce. This competition requires participants to design and produce a single-seater racing car from 'fresh air' to completion in 12 months ...AND complete their degree studies at the same time! This is a truly international event, with entrants from universities across the globe. Last year's winner came from Australia, this years event even has an entrant from Iran. Given the outstanding contribution UK engineering provides to Motor Sport, it seems fitting that the British Grand Prix is held during the same week as Formula Student. This year sees Shell organising a quick change tyre event, where attendees are invited to change a tyre on a real Ferrari F1 car against the clock -fantastic. This annual project is an amazing opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate their skills, enthusiasm, ingenuity and commitment to engineering and business excellence. For industry, it's an opportunity to forge close links with academia and of course mix with the talent of our future! Formula Student is supported by an impressive array of partners and sponsors from a wide spectrum of industry, including Shell, Honda Racing, Airbus. Adurasys are absolutely over the moon to have been given the chance to support this wonderful project. |

Toastmasters are usually thought of as the master of ceremonies making announcements at weddings etc; but shouldn't be confused with Toastmasters the organisation, a not for profit organisation, geared to helping everyone with communication and attracts people from housekeepers to corporate bankers, beginners to advanced speakers all looking to develop or hone their public speaking skills. Every year Toastmasters International hosts the World Championship speaking finals, this year it is to be held in Calgary, Canada in August 2008. We're proud to say that 'our Mel' (Melanie Smart) represented Birmingham in the Division finals, held in Aberdeen on 20th April and we're delighted to say she won! She will now go on to represent Birmingham in the national speaking contest finals (UK and Ireland) , to be held in Killarny, Ireland. The winner of this event will then go through to the World Championships in Calgary Canada. Commenting, Melanie said "I was completely blown over when they announced I'd won and just sat there in stunned silence [that's a first Mel] they had to fetch me from my seat, whilst I reached for the hankies and blubbered away. I can't wait for the National finals in Ireland." Utilise Melanie's skills to help you with Solution Selling and your Presentation and B2B Cold calling skills.
